LibDems to offer Britain an In or Out Referendum on the EU.

The Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesman, Ed Davey has just promised on BBC 2 Foreign Affairs debate, with William Hague and David Miliband, that Britain will be given a full IN or OUT referendum on the EU before any more powers are ceded to the EU.

Considering that last Friday the Commission started pushing for "Economic Governance" and that the LibDems now look poised to be the election winners this is indeed fantastic news.

An Apt Analogy for Wavering Voters

The EU is the "Titanic"

Greece was the iceberg

The UK is a lifeboat

The three main parties are still wining, dining and dancing in the first class ballroom, drunk with power, unaware that anything is amiss.

Only UKIP and the other EU withdrawalist parties are prepared to launch the lifeboat

Look at the strength, the luxuriousness and power of all around you plead Brown, Cameron and Clegg.

Soon, however, it will all lie at the bottom of the sea..... the lifeboat too were it not to be quickly lowered.

The sea below is cold, dark and threatening - the Titanic vast and strangely magnificent (yet the design fault is breached).

Those taking their places in the lifeboat need courage, but they will be saved!

The New UKIP

The following is from The Guardian, linked here:

Pearson said his party had targeted six Tories and Labour's David Drew, in Stroud, who Ukip believe would ask questions both inside and outside the Commons chamber on Europe and defy the party whip "if necessary".

At a press conference in central London today, Pearson named the Conservative candidates Ukip would not run against as Philip Davies (Shipley), Douglas Carswell (Clacton), Janice Small (Batley and Spen), Alex Story (Wakefield), and Philip Hollobone (Kettering).

It will also not run against independent Bob Spink in Castle Point.

The strategy is part of Ukip's ongoing pursuit of a referendum on Europe.

"We are not just standing aside," said Pearson. "What we going to do is rather different; we are going to actively campaign for all these candidates."

In Stroud, where Drew is campaigning for a fourth term, the Ukip candidate had already registered but was "asking voters to back the Labour candidate if possible", said Pearson.

Pearson conceded that none of the Conservatives or Drew had actually asked for Ukip's support. "I think it is possible there are some other seats here before the end of the campaign where our candidates – where we have them – say: 'If you possibly can, you vote for mostly the Conservative candidate or if not hold your nose and vote for me.' That will draw the votes ... We think this is different. I don't think this [has been] done before."

UKIP and Democracy

There is an item in The Sunday Times this morning about by-passing the law on political donations which further shames UKIP.

The bigger scandal remains their destruction of the only chance for real change in Britain's politics which took place with a vote by their NEC earlier last wek as reported below.

I left the following comment to The Sunday Times article, linked here:

It was revealed this week that the UK Independence Party's National Executive Committee had deliberately destroyed a plan which could have delivered a referendum on the EU and brought some much needed "New Politics"to the UK. I quote:

"A group of parties including UKIP, Jury Team and the English Democrats had recently held discussions to field joint candidates and offer the country a sane alternative to the corrupted politics now adopted by the three main parties. I understand the main threads of common understanding centred on the following main points; "that the UK electorate should be given a referendum on whether they wished to stay in the EU, the English electorate should be given a referendum on establishing an English Parliament and referendums should be allowed, subject to certain safeguards, if 5% of the electorate asked for one ("Empowering the People" through referendums) either nationally or locally (including MP recall)."

Agreement seemed near allowing this alliance to field one sole candidate in 558 seats and candidates in all 632 constituencies. In only 74 seats would the other parties clash with the UKIP and while they stood down 119 of their candidates UKIP would have to stand down a mere 18 PPCs.

The UKIP NEC, in spite of the urgings of their new leader Malcolm Pearson, refused to countenance the arrangement, preferring to continue to sabotage the best interests of the British people as has been their practice down the years..."

Abstention now seems the only course for most voters believing in independence and democracy for the UK, as few constituencies will offer a realistic chance for change.

New Politics scuppered by UKIP's National Executive!

The shocking news that a golden opportunity to change the face of British politics and start to finally set the nation upon a saner course has been brought to the attention of this blogger.

A group of parties including UKIP, Jury Team and the English Democrats had recently held discussions to field joint candidates and offer the country a sane alternative to the corrupted politics now adopted by the three main parties.

The UKIP NEC, in spite of the urgings of their new leader Malcolm Pearson, refused to countenance the arrangement, preferring to continue to sabotage the best interests of the British people as has been their practise down the years as detailed on this blog.

Individual UKIP members must now barrage their NEC members with e-mailed and other protests before the election is called.

This Easter weekend could well prove crucial for the future of the country!
