Illegal political donations

UKIP escaped with a fine of eighteen thousand pounds in August in a technical breaking of the law on party donations. The fine was paid to the public exchequer, why then did Brown today talk of returning Labour's completely illegal donations as if to the donors?

I am personally aware that the UKIP Treasurer during the short period I was active in the party was scrupulous in verifying that donations were entirely legal and properly reported, as he put it to me - it was after all he who was legally required to ensure compliance with the law.

It seems strange therefore that the Labour Party Treasurer, Jack Dromey, was not the individual required to resign especially as he was unable to even properly advise his wife, Harriet Harmen, against accepting one such illegal donation in her successful campaign for the Deputy Leadership of the now fully disgraced Labour Party.
