Fighting for Funds

Fallout from the recent overspend continues. The UKIP leadership scrapping for who gets what of the incoming money, leaves ordinary party members like innocent passengers on a sinking ship watching the officers scrap for the last places on the one sound lifeboat.

The latest twist according to information reaching us goes as follows. A national petition was included with the June newsletter, a copy of which was distributed to all party members with the June newsletter - for photocopying /circulating widely/completing, and returning to UKIP head office.

These were then sent on to Ashford, where signees were telephoned and invited to join the party or donate . . . to the South East (needless to say Nigel Farage's constituency region).

As our correspondent puts it so vividly "Party members who shiver on street corners collecting petition signatures in Preston or Pontefract must be pleased to know that subs and donations from their new members are swelling the SE's Euro election fund! (or don't they know?)"

And why she asks is the petition "an initiative by the UKIP Members of the European Parliament - Jeffrey Titford, Nigel Farage, Graham Booth", and the petition launched in the newsletter as "EU Constitution - UKIP MEPs' Response"? Isn't the MEPs' initiative and response also that of the party? If the NEC agreed and approved the petition (for a referendum on accepting the new Constitution or leaving the EU) why isn't it described as 'An Initiative of the UK Independence Party', and 'The UK Independence Party's Response'? Is it that the three MEPs, having 'initiated' it, are having a divvy up of the proceeds? Or does all the money stay in the SE?

And do I understand correctly that there is an increasing number of party members whom head office is obliged to provide with six newsletters a year, annual conference facilities, NEC election ballot papers and other communications, but for whom it is not receiving a penny in new or repeat membership dues?"

These seemed such pertinent questions and worth bringing to the attention of the NEC direct rather than the internet discussion group where it first appeared on Saturday, that we are posting them here without the normally obtained prior approval. If this post disappears than that permission can be assumed not to have been obtained.

Any answer from any NEC member (which would be a major breakthrough) would be posted on receipt.
